One of Their Own

(For Aunt Mary)
There's a quiet kind of peace within this room.
There's sadness here for death is coming soon.
Aching hearts, trembling hands, and silent tears upon our cheeks,
anxious glances, fervent prayers - How many hours, days or weeks
have these angels been here waiting
for one of their own?
A misty shadow moves across the room,
a rustling in the corner - gone too soon,
a song, a melody within our heads and hearts,
a memory so sweet of all the love she could impart -
Can you feel the angels waiting
for one of their own?
Hear the breath that comes too shallow now.
Touch her hand and let her know that she's allowed
to leave behind these earthly bonds and chains,
step forth, take wing, let just her love with us remain,
and join these angels ever waiting
for one of their own.
Her eyes are open now - What can she see?
There's a glow upon her face, but not for me.
It's for the host of loved ones passed now at her side.
Our joy and sorrow blends and our tears we cannot hide
as His angels wing away with
one of their own!
