Changes

I rubbed my eyes and came awake,
my nap a total waste.
My reverie had been disturbed
much to my distaste.
From light to dark the room had changed...
The day had shifted form.
I heard the whoosh from eastward then,
the sound of a coming storm.
Through the open doorway
I saw autumn's first leaves fall...
racing earthward, driven now
by nature's timely call.
I cringe to think how soon it will be
when rakes will be my tools
and muscles sore and aching
advise the air has cooled.
Lightly falls the rain now
upon my summer's fun
while thunder rumbles distantly
to scare away the sun!
