The Secret Path

Out upon the beach at dawn
I hear the seagulls calling.
Out beyond the waves I'm drawn.
I can feel my body falling.
Down  beneath the foam and spray,
how cold the water's touching
Down amid the kelp I'll stay...
How fast my thoughts are rushing!
Why must all the ways of man
be masked in secret meaning?
Why must all we try to plan
be lost in futile dreaming?
One life can have so little love,
yet another life so much...
One life blessed from Heaven above,
yet another so out of touch...
In vain I walked the crowded streets.
The answers were not there.
In time, along this lonely beach,
my thoughts began to clear.
Today I found the secret path
that  leads me surely home.
Today I'll rest forevermore
beneath the sea's white foam.
