A New World

When I awoke this morning, my whole world had changed.

The sun had left the sky and the stars were rearranged.

The moon had left its orbit and hung dimly far below.

Five thousand souls and more drifted upward as they cried,

while angels wailed an awful dirge, their voices parched and dry.

Where once the mighty stood, now rubble, ash, and mourning,

and a sea of broken hearts wondering why there was no warning.

Amid the devastation, who can tell the wrong from right?

When the darkness falls upon us, who can tell the day from night?

When will the sun e're shine again, the moon regain its course?

What positions will the stars take when they return in force?

When I awake tomorrow, do I dare to try to smile

when I see that hope and love remain in the heart of every child?

Though briefly it may seem that our back's against the wall,

we'll all join hands together and answer freedom's call!

For our spirit can't be broken, no matter how they try.

It will go on undaunted and our courage never die!
