A Smile for You

There came a smile upon my lips, a smile that would not go.
It curled up at the edges and my face began to glow.
A song emerged from deep inside... I hummed it all day long.
With thoughts of you upon my mind, I hummed my happy song.
If ou could know the way I feel... Like my joy might soon o'erflow,
Then you would know the reason for the smile that would not go!

A Moment Ago

Today, tomorrow and yesterday,
a time to dream,  time to play.
a child's a child but once and then
A child he wishes he'd be again.
a moment ago is all it seems,
yet now it's only in his dreams...
School Days

Oh where are the children who play in the lane,
whose laughter has beckoned me so many times,
who knock on my dor and call me by name,
who eat up my cookies and tell me their rhymes?
Oh where are the children this fine summer day?
Their visits are always the rule.
Are they lost, or ill, or all moved away?
No!  Today is the first day of school!

J. Justin Jubberdaft set out upon a rubber raft,
hit a rock and sunk his craft,
swam ashore and laughed, laughed, laughed!

How Many Fish?

How many fish can you see in the sea?
A million and one, or two, or three?
From sharks to stars to octopi,
some of them bold, some of them shy.
A wiggle and wobble, a splash or glide...
It's amazing the places they find to hide!
Some over abundant, some nearly extinct...
If we don't protect them, they're gone in a wink!
Let's forget about hooks, nets and harpoons,
and learn just to love them and let's do it soon!

Eat
Ham!
Don't Worry!

Gobble, gobble, turkey bird...
Thanksgiving Day's tomorrow!
Don't hang your head and run away...
Let a smile replace your sorrow!
The sharpened axe I've put away...
Take heed if you are able.
I've changed the menu for that meal...
There'll be ham upon my table!

Alex and Fred

There once was a horse with two heads.
One head was named Alex; the other was Fred.
When Alex walked forward, then Fred walked back,
and a tail was the one thing that both of them lacked!
They fought and they fussed about who's going where
and wherever they went, everyone stared!

Autumn Puppies

Autumn puppies rest on hay
among the jack-o-lanterns.
Eyes not open, they struggle
through the straw and pumpkin heads.
Sensing mother's tasty nips,
they push on toward their goal.

Tillie

Tillie the ticklish terrier
wouldn't let anyone carry 'er.
She's snip and she'd bite
'til she could alight,
and everyone had to beware of 'er!

Dreaming

Did you ever see a big baboon
with a smile upon his lips
eat lollipops and macaroons
and a bowl of chocolate chips?
Did you ever see a grizzly bear
eat pickles, one by one -
with candied applies, deviled eggs,
and pears?   I hope he's done!
I'm sure that you can see them
for they're all inside your head.
Just close your eyes and find them
when you climb into your bed!
