My
Granny's
Bonnet

My granny made her bonnets
from scraps and bits of clothes
that once had served a purpose
in the life she came to know.
She'd comb her long gray hair
and knot it up so neat,
then wear her flowered bonnet
against the summer's heat.
With stitches made by hand,
it outlasted store-bought goods
and exemplified her spirit,
a strong and faithful hood.
When I can wear my granny's bonnet,
I will know I have arrived,
that I have met life's challenges
and through it all survived.
When I place it proudly on my head
and tie it  'neath my chin,
I'll know the puzzle is finished
and the last piece has fit in!
