The Flames of War

A tiny spark, greed, an ill-timed word or deed... and the flame begins.
Smoke, crackling leaves, rapid gunfire - mother's grieve...
as death rides on the wind.

Raging, ravaging, racing, burning, killing, wasting precious life and land.
Lose control, negotiate, entreat and capitulate - then forgive...
if you can.

Sons return and sons remain, the weak, the wounded, the lame - They cannot forget
the country that put them on the lines, that wrote the letters usually signed,
"With deepest regrets..."

The wounded returning to their native land soon find they cannot understand the way we act...
and so the flame lingers on within the hearts of those who've gone...
to war and back.
