Dogs and Heaven

"I ain't goin to heaven!"
I heard the young boy say.
"The preacher says dogs don't have souls
not even if I pray.

But he's my best friend here on earth
and I can trust ole Bo.
If God don't want no dogs up there,
then I ain't goina go."

His pa said, "That ole preacher
ain't nothing but a fool.
He don't know nothing bout boys and dogs
'cept what he larned in school.

I bet Jesus had a dog
that followed him each day
and waited at the temple's gate
when He went in to pray.

Maybe he sat waiting
beneath that wooden cross
and he above all others
could feel the world's great loss.

And when they rolled the stone across
his Master's tomb that day,
he waited in the shadows
where his good friend lay.

So when God came to get His son
to take him up above,
He stooped down and took in His hands
the dog His son had loved.

Now this ain't in no Bible verse
least not one I have read,
but I know God loves all living things
and that I know He said.

So don't be afraid to die my son
Just sleep the whole night thru
for God will come and take you home
and Bo will go with you."
